St Helena Hospice Donation – Every little really does help
Published 19 August 2025
In a recent visit to St Helena Hospice in Colchester our Managing Director Steve Juson and Head of Partnerships Gemma Gallagher visited the hardworking team to present them with a donation of £2,000.
Both Steve and Gemma received a welcomed tour of the fantastic facilities, during which they met Head of Community Asset Development & Partnerships Greg Cooper, who talked them through the wide range of care the Hospice provides for patients and their families, he said:
‘’ Thank you so much to Kind & Co for supporting St Helena Hospice. We only receive 20% of our funding from the NHS and are very grateful for donations like this to help us continue to support local people in need of our care across Northeast Essex’’
Both Steve and Gemma were struck by how little funding the sector receives and came away from the meeting with a clearer view on how vital fundraising support is for Hospice care. At St Helena alone so far, this financial year (April 2025) they have:
- Responded to 11,525 phone calls on their hotline 29% of which at night
- Had 633 referrals and generated 4,713 clinical contacts
- Helped 81 people with spiritual support
- Provided complementary therapy to over 100 people across 376 sessions
At present the Hospice does not have enough funding to fully occupy all of the beds within the facility and many of the nursing staff who work there do so as volunteers, to ensure the hospice can continue to provide robust clinical support.
Our Head of Partnerships Gemma Gallagher, who helped organise our donation under our social value endeavours commented:
‘’ The level of help provided by St Helena’s to those who require in-patient care and community assistance is truly fantastic and it is so important to raise awareness that funding is the lifeblood to help keep this hospice and others up and down the country running. So, any donation big or small is such a huge help.’’
Steve Juson our MD added:
‘’It was a pleasure to hand over this donation to the team at St Helena, the work they do is incredible and donations of any kind are so important. This definitely marks the start of our relationship of support with St Helena, and we will continue to raise awareness about the charity and the good work they do, to encourage as much help as possible for the organisation.’’
We are pleased to support this incredible charity in our continued efforts to work closely with the wider community in Colchester, where we are currently delivering 63 new homes for our client Essex Housing.
